Local bowlers found the going tough at the National Championships in which were played in Shaw’s Bridge on Saturday.
Results - Open Singles:- A Browne, Wellington beaten by J Reid, Buckna in first round, E Rooney, St. Mary’s beaten by J R Graham, Glenburn in the first round, N Cox, St. Joseph’s bye in the first round, beaten in the second round by A Paul, Cookstown High Ladies Singles:- Mrs J Carson beaten by L Hamilton, Glendermott in the first round Junior Pairs:- L & M Ferguson, Devenish beaten by A Dych, Killyman in the first round Open Rinks:- G Burke, Wellington beaten in the quarter final by R O’Neill, Utd Services Ladies Pairs:- Mrs P Bradshaw & Ms K Bradshaw, St. Joseph’s beaten in the semi final by E Hastings, Ballywalter Very hard luck to the bowlers who took part on Saturday and good luck to the remaining bowlers from Western Zone who are taking part in the remaining Nationals this Saturday, March 15 in Shaw’s Bridge.

If enough people come forward a course can be organised. The Umpires Association is always on the lookout to coach and recruit new umpires.
