The Fermanagh Bowling League playing season came to a close last week with its knockout tournament, the Gaby Gault Rinks. The event was contested by 18 clubs from all over the county, with a sell-out entry of 36 rinks taking part over the three nights of play.

Following two nights of play the top eight rinks returned to the finals night and in the quarter finals: David Graham (Wellington) defeated Eric Hunter (Kilskeery) 8 shots to 4 Trevor Brian (Kilskeery) defeated Malcom Hurst (St. Michael’s) 6 shots to 5 Jude Morris (St. Michael’s) defeated David Dickson (Lakeland) 8 shots to 6 Gary Burke (Wellington) defeated Caroline Scott (Wellington) 9 shots to 3 The semi-finals saw Gary Burke defeat Jude Morris 8 shots to 3, while Trevor Brian defeated David Graham 6 shots to 5.

In a very one sided final Gary Burke’s rink consisting of Elizabeth Burke, Harry Gawley and Trevor Morrison easily defeated Trevor Brian’s rink by 15 shots to 7. The tournament. that was first played in 1994. has been won by Gary for a record eight times, an outstanding achievement.

The Fermanagh Bowling League’s knockout tournament is very well supported, as the proceeds are always donated to charity.

This year the league were delighted to present a cheque for £1,000 to Chest, Heart and Stroke NI which was gratefully received by the organisations local treasurer Una Burke.
