Magheracross I.B.C recently held their Annual Pairs tournament which again proved to be a very popular well supported competition with 116 pairs from all parts of the country taking part. The monies raised from this tournament amount to £1,050 and before the final was played a cheque for this amount was presented by club secretary Mrs Anne Brian to a Staff Nurse from Ward 5 Stroke Unit at the South West Acute Hospital, Enniskillen.

The tournament was run over four nights of play with 12 pairs returning for the finals.

In the preliminary rounds husband and wife pairing Myrtle and George Hurst, Magheracross beat J Teague/D Wilson Trory 10–3; M Elliott/G Brian, Magheracross beat N Alexander/J Quinn Donegal 6-5; S McSorley/W Wilson Ardstraw lost out to A Ward/M Cunningham Cookstown 4–5 and in another close game Mari and Brian Lynch, Clanabogan beat I McQuaid/M Mulligan, Knockmoyle 6 – 5.

In the quarter finals G Brian beat his own club member G Hurst 8–6; M Cunningham had a convincing win over B Lynch 9–2; Joan and Raymond Porter, Clanabogan overcame Marcus and Norman Rutledge, Sixmilecross 6–4 and PJ McCrossan/S McGlinchey, Kildress beat C Stewart/G McNabb, Trory 11–6.

The semi-final between Mark/Gary and Aaron/Malcolm was a very hotly contested game with the scoreline finishing at 8–6 in favour of the Magheracross pair and in the remaining semi PJ/Seamus just pipped Joan/Raymond 8–5.

The final unfortunately didn’t turn out the way that the pairing of Mark/Gary would have liked as PJ/Seamus just overwhelmed them by beating them 11–1.

The Club Captain Mr Malcolm Hurst thanked everyone for supporting the tournament and a special thank you to the Ladies for the lovely supper they provided each night of play.

He then asked the Rev. Harper to come forward to present the prizes and the Cup to the winners.
