Tuesday evening brought the 2009/10 Fermanagh Bowling League to a close and determined the overall league winners and promotion teams from the lower section two. It also of course emerged who takes the dreaded two relegation positions to compete in the lower section next season.

From Christmas it was a forgone conclusion who this year's champions were when Wellington A, who at that stage were undefeated, had the title virtually tied up.

The Wellington team eventually regained their championship title by an amazing 22.5 points but will be disappointed in not creating a Fermanagh League record by being the first team to end a season undefeated.

Last week a brilliant Ballinamallard side Magheracross deprived them of this when they were clearly the best team on the night and thoroughly deserved their 5 points to 1 victory. For by this one hiccup, Wellington A have now incredibly collected their 12th title a remarkable achievement and a credit to the club.

During the second half of the season the main 'battle' was for the runners-up position in the premier section, with Lakeland A and Wellington B the main contenders.

With the Lakelanders only able to collect 3.5 points from their game against Mullaghdun, it left Wellington B trailing by only a single point and Tuesday evening's encounter against Magheracross still to play. In this game the Ballinmallard side once again almost pulled off a shock result when, despite losing the two opening games, bounced back to two victories in the remaining two only to lose out in the overall shots,

In the remaining game in this section, Lakeland B, despite picking up four points against Coa, were relegated and along with Mullaghdun will compete in the lower section next season. The two points that Coa chalked up in this encounter was sufficient to guarantee them premier section bowls next season.

In one of the most exciting ends to a section B season, St John's from Fivemiletown were section winners and St Mary's from Brookeborough itook the number two spot and both deservedly gain the two promotion places to the higher section.

St John's just clinched the number one position on Tuesday evening with a five pointer from their game against Cleenish and ended just 1.5 points ahead of the Brookeborough side. Matt Livingstone's rink for St Johns ending a superb season with a sixteen shots to one win over Leo Owen's Cleenish rink.

St Michael's B ended their season on 'a high' with a comfortable win over Florencecourt, while Kilskeery who earlier in the season had been promotion candidates, collected for points in their encounter with bottom team Cavancarragh.

In the remaining game in this section, Gransha just edged a win over the Legion by virtue of a single shot advantage in the overall after the Legion had won two and drawn one of the four games played. David McVitty's Gransha rink sealing the overall with an opening 16 shots to 9 win over Legion's Janet Brown.

The Fermanagh League committee would like to congratulate all the winners and thank all the bowlers who competed throughout the season for the sportsmanship way that all the games were played.
