Reigning champions shocked by Kilskeery victory
Last year's champions and present section leaders were, for a change, on the receiving end in Tuesday evening's play in the Lakeland Forum.
A youthful, vibrant Kilskeery team pulled off, what so far, has to be the shock of the season, by defeating the champions, who have been winners of the Fermanagh league for the past four years.
The surprise result in this game was the defeat of Gary Burkes rink of Jean Carson, Harry Gawley and Trevor Morrison by Gary Brian's Kilskeery rink of Jamie Beatty, Eric Hunter and Winston Cluff who eased victory by 10 shots to 2. This successful Kilskeery rink, not satisfied by this result, then continued their winning ways by edging victory against Wellington's David Graham's rink, even after dropping a five in the second end. This was Kilskeery's first win of the season and what a way to do it.
In section A, St. Michael's continued their unbeaten run in the league after they defeated Florencecourt relatively easily with Jude Morris' rink chalking up two convincing wins over Florencecourt's Billy Browne and Cecil Phair's rinks.
In the other 'local derby' in this section Trory A, kept their up their challenge to St. Michael's, with a useful three points from their encounter with Trory B,
Mullaghdun collected the maximum four points from their game against bottom of the section side Cavanacarragh, Niall Cox's rink romping home with the win of the evening a 16 shots to 2 win over Conor McCarney's rink. Close on the heels of Mullaghdun at the top of this section is Cleenish, who with the same number of games played are only trailing by 1.5 points, after they chalked up a satisfying three points to one win over St. Mary's.
In section D St. Michael's B collected their second win of the season after defeating Lakeland B in a very close encounter. When a result of 13 shots each appears in a game, then that clearly shows the closeness of this match. Such was the case between St. Michael's rink skipped by Gordon Beatty St. Michael's B and Jack Thompson's rink when the Lakeland rink collected a six in the sixth end and St. Michael's hit back with a five in the penultimate end. In the remaining game in this section Lakeland A kept up their challenge for a semi final place when they defeated Gransha by 3 points to 1.
As there is no league bowling until the New Year, Fermanagh League would like to wish all bowlers a very happy Christmas and a sporting New Year.
