Wellington A look good for last four
Fermanagh league bowling resumed on Tuesday evening after the Christmas break, and with two-thirds of this season's fixtures already played, the contest for the coveted four semi-final places is on.
Results on Tuesday evening clearly showed that after heavily defeating their nearest contenders in section three, Wellington B, Wellington A now look to have assured their semi-final position.
Wellington B needed to win this 'derby' game to keep within striking distance of their rivals, but failed to match the superiority of their fellow club team whose Gary Burke chalked up two victories against Caroline Scott and Ivor Armstrong respectively. Caroline's rink collecting the B team's only points of the evening when they shared the spoils with David Graham's rink.
In the remaining game in this section, St Joseph's kept their hopes of challenging for the winning position slightly alive when they added another three points to their tally from their encounter with bottom team Kilskeery. Karl Bradshaw chalking up the win of the evening when he comprehensively defeated Trevor Brian's Kilskeery rink by 19 shots to 1 while Jamie Beatty's rink collected Kilskeery's only point when they defeated Michael McGrade's rink by 12 shots to 3.
Trory Club suffered a disappointing night when both their teams in section A were on the receiving end. The A team went down heavily to a very much improved Florencecourt team while the B team had a similar result in their game with Clogher Valley who also possibly had their best game of the season.
St Michael's who had a bye in this section on Tuesday evening, seem to have the winners position secured, having taken a clear 7.5 points of a lead.
The most closely contested section at the moment is section B where only 2.5 points divide the three top teams.
On Tuesday evening Cleenish moved into the number one position after securing 2.5 points against Cavancarragh.
The Arney team made heavy work out of this win when Cavanacarragh produced their best performance of this season and just allowed Cleenish 2.5 points in a very closely contested game. Conor McCarney's rink for Cavanacarragh romping home with an 18 shots to 3 victory over Cleenish rink skipped by Leo Owens.
St Mary's had to settle for a drawn game against Royal British Legion but still remain in a challenging position for the leading position in this section. The Legion team showed a marked improvement from previous weeks and if they can manage to maintain this form, they will still have a chance of being there or thereabouts come the end of February.
In section D Tamlaght side Derryvullan confirmed their position at the top with another satisfying victory over Lakeland A who presently hold the second spot.
Roly Nixon's rink for Derryvullan leading the way when they heavily defeated Wilfie Crawford's Lakelanders rink by 10 shots to 3. Roly's rink were clearly the better team right from the start and had taken a seven shot lead before Wilfie's rink had graced the scoreboard.
The Derryvullan rink continued their winning ways when they went on to defeat Tommy Cathcart's rink by 9 shots to 3.
The Lakelander's other team prevented a complete 'whitewash' for the club when they chalked up a 3 points to 1 win over Gransha. Will Stevenson's rink in top form, winning both their games against Matthew Burleigh and Esther Forster comprehensively. Matthew Burleigh's Gransha rink saving the 'brush', in style, with a resounding 20 shots to 3 victory over Lakeland's Jack Thompson
