Belfast success for Wray's rink
The annual bowling outing to the 'long mat' at the Belfast Bowling Stadium took place last Saturday and as usual a 'good day out' was had by all.
Almost 50 bowlers from Fermanagh and Tyrone travelled to the international stadium, some for the first time, to experience the difference between the local short mat game and the much televised longer version.
The experience was enjoyed by all and the standard of bowling was to a very high standard.
Played on a round robin format twelve rinks of four took part in two sections with the winners of both playing in a final to decide who were the overall 'champions of the day'.
In section one, the result the winners had to be decided by shots overall when Harold Nelson's rink of Jim Stockdale, Ethna Maguire and Edith Robertson just lost out to Andy Wray and his rink of Billy Kirkpatrick, Frances Cartwright and Angela Smyth to book their final place.
In section two, Joe Reilly's rink of Derek Johnston, Maria McKibben and Alan Clarke were run away winners after being undefeated in their five games to deservedly, win the section and progress to the final.
In a closely contested final Andy and his rink turned out to be the better of the two rinks and in an enjoyable final edged victory over Joe's rink to be the team of the day in Belfast.
At the conclusion Margaret McCourt, an annual supporter of the trip to the stadium presented the winners and runners- up with their prizes and Eric Hamilton who organised the event thanked the caterers and the staff of the stadium for making the day so enjoyable..
