Ederney’s former Irish international boxer Daniel Carron will be holding a ‘white collar’ boxing night in Mahon’s Hotel on November 23 in aid of three year old Beau Angelides.

Beau, from Nottingham, England but who is a frequent visitor to Fermanagh, suffers from a rare condition called San Fillippo Syndrome which is a genetic disease. He cannot stand, walk or eat food because he cannot swallow and is fed through a tube into the stomach. Among other things he is blind and may also lose his hearing. Beau’s condition will progressively worsen and Daniel is determined to help raise funds to make things as comfortable as possible for the three year old.

“I could not sit back and do nothing, I wanted to do whatever I could to help out,” he said.

Daniel’s wife Suzanne was at University with Beau’s Dad Paul, and they have remained firm friends ever since.

“Paul and Beau take their holidays with us at our home in Ederney, which is one of the few places that they can visit due to Beau’s care needs,” explained Daniel. “We have a new build house that has good disabled access and we have plenty of room on the ground floor for Beau’s equipment. Paul and Beau love the peace and quiet as we live out in the countryside and Beau absolutely loves the water. He loves Lough Erne and if the weather is good we take him out for a dip in the water at Muckross.“ With a lot of contacts build up from his time as a boxer, Daniel has decided to put together an event with European champion Paul McCloskey having attended the launch at Ederney Townhall on Monday evening.

Professional boxers such as Enniskillen’s Ben Mulligan and Daniel McShane from Belfast will take part in an exhibition bout while some big amateur names will also be on the bill. Some local sports stars including GAA and soccer players will also take part while it is also hoped that a number of big names will make guest appearances to sign autographs on the night.

Daniel is currently seeking support and sponsorship for the night.

“We desperately need support and we are appealing for help to make the night a success. We have been looking for sponsorship and would like to ask any local or national businessmen who are interested to come forward to sponsor a bout or a round or donate items to auction. We also need to ask for support from the community, we need people to come along and buy tickets and in return they will get a great night’s entertainment and the knowledge that they are helping a very worthy cause. So far some of our local Ederney businesses have helped but asking people for money is hard. We need specialist help including printers to print posters and programmes so we would like to appeal to anyone out there who is willing to help, no matter how small the donation it could make a massive difference,” he said.
