Irvinestown Wanderers 5 NFC Kesh 2

Irvinestown Wanderers moved eight points clear of the bottom two after they made it back to back league wins with a 5-2 victory over bottom of the table NFC Kesh at the Bawnacre on Saturday.
Irvinestown boss Rory Cassidy admits that his side were not at their best but stresses that the important thing was the three points.
“To be honest, we’ve probably played better this season and got nothing out of it but it was a derby game and the big thing for us was to get the points and give ourselves a bit of a cushion to the bottom two. That’s two wins in a row now for us and hopefully we can build on this,” said Cassidy.
For Kesh manager Niall Amos it was another disappointing result as the search for that elusive opening point goes on.
“To be fair to Irvinestown, they took their chances and that won them the game. We just haven’t been able to get that result to get us going and we have to learn how to win games. There is still a long way to go though and there is a lot of games to be played between now and the end of the season,” he said.
Wanderers could not have got off to a better possible start to the game as they bagged the first goal inside the opening minute.
Chris O’Brien raced on to a Ronan Ormsby ball over the top and calmly slotted it past David Smith in the Kesh goal.
Kesh did have a chance to level things after ten minutes but Lee Walker headed over the bar and with half an hour on the clock Irvinestown went on to double their advantage.
Rory Cassidy picked out the run of Clint Thompson and he finished well to make it 2-0.
Two then became three as half time approached as Ormsby’s cross took a deflection off Kesh defender Callum Funston and looped up over Smith to leave it 3-0 at half time.
The away side pushed hard on the resumption for a way back into the game but they got caught on the counter and Stephen Sheridan rounded the goalkeeper before tucking home number four.
Kesh though hit back with two goals of their own to give them hope. Niall McMenamin converted from the spot after Mark Jones was upended, and Jones then fired home his side’s second to make it 4-2.
It was all over though in the 76th minute as Sheridan netted his second to secure a 5-2 win for the home side.
