Magheraveely 4 Enniskillen Town 6

Enniskillen Town bagged four first half goals as they claimed the points against Magheraveely in Clones on Saturday to keep them in touch with the leaders at the top of the Mercer League.
Two goals apiece from Johnny Hoy and Darren McQuade and one each from Mark Little and Frank Wallace saw Town secure the win, Rory Judge’s side finishing up 6-4 winners in a high scoring encounter.
Although Magheraveely showed plenty of battling qualities in the second half, Town boss Judge says the outcome was never in doubt.
“We went into a 4-0 lead and although they hit four goals of their own, the result was never in danger. Every time we went up the pitch we looked like scoring although I would be concerned that we conceded four goals from headers. Regardless of the performance though it was important to chalk up the three points and we have to continue doing that in January. We have a few players coming back so we should be stronger in the New Year,” said Judge.
Magheraveely’s Rodney McVitty was encouraged by his side’s second recovery after falling four goals behind.
“Town punished our mistakes in the first half, and you can’t go 4-0 down to a team like Enniskillen and expect to win,” he admitted. “Individual errors in the first half cost us but second half we can take a lot of positives. We scored four goals against a very good Town side and we can take that forward after Christmas and try to get as many points as we can.”
Town were quickly out of the blocks, and had established a two goal lead after just five minutes. Ryan Hanna disposed Brian Kettyles in midfield and found Hoy, who released Frank Wallace on goal and he made no mistake.
A second followed quickly after when Hoy disposed the centre back and raced through on goal before sliding it past the keeper.
The away side added a third after 20 minutes when Hoy scored from a Frank Wallace cross, and on the half hour mark the game was all but over when Darren McQuade got on the end of a well worked free kick routine to net a fourth.
Jamie Coalter reduced the deficit just before half time with a goal for Magheraveely, and that lifted the side for the start of the second half.
They posed more of a threat and pulled another one back when Jason Cadden rose at the far post to power a header into the net from Joseph Williamson’s corner.
Any hopes of mounting an unlikely comeback were extinguished by McQuade as he made it 5-2 when he got on the end of a corner.
Magheraveely again reduce the gap when Gregory Johnston flicked on a throw in and Paul Elliott scored, but Town were not finished either.
McQuade struck the bar and Wallace forced Grew into a good save from a curling effort before Mark Little added a sixth from the penalty spot.
Magheraveely still had time to score a fourth through Paul Elliott but the Town win was never in doubt and they held on to claim all three points.
