Strathroy Harps 3 Enniskillen Town 0 Enniskillen Town manager Rory Judge felt that the 3-0 scoreline was harsh on his side as they went down to table toppers Strathroy Harps on Saturday.

Judge had watched his side have the better of things for the opening period but they could not get their noses in front and a more clinical Strathroy bagged three goals in the second half to secure the points.

“There is no way that our performance was reflected in the scoreline. We were the better side in the first half and for a 20 minute period we battered them and should have been 2-0 up at half time. We couldn’t though get the goal when we were on top and it was always going to be one of those games were the first goal is crucial and they got it. They were more clinical than us on the day,” said Town boss Judge.

Harps boss Seamus Fanthorpe described the encounter as a ‘six pointer’ and with his side now having come out with the win they have put some real daylight between themselves and Town.

“It was an important game for us. We felt last season we took our eye off the ball when we got ourselves into a good position and dropped points that we should not have so that’s our aim now, to stay focused and make sure we keep going,” Fanthorpe explained after the game.

Harps certainly seem to be a side honing in on the title and it was the changes they made at half time in this game that was the difference between the two sides.

Darren Teague and Conor O’Donnell were introduced on either flank with Patrick Nugent moving to the centre of the park with all three moves paying dividends.

It could have been a very different game however had Town managed to enter the break ahead.

Johnny Hoy had two chances early on for the visitors but he failed to find the target while Stephen Clarke also missed an opportunity.

Hoy had another chance early in the second half but he hit the side-netting and it was the home side who were to go and take the lead ten minutes after resumption.

Substitute O’Donnell played a long probing ball into the Town box and when Simon O’Neill showed great awareness to head the ball back into the danger area Aidy McCaffrey was on hand to swivel well and finish past Pat Cadden in the Town goal.

The game was still well in the balance with Town pressing hard for the equaliser but it was the home side who struck for the crucial second. A well worked short corner saw McCaffrey and Teague exchange passes with the former delivering a perfect cross for Tommy Murphy to head to the net.

At 2-0 Harps were in cruise control but Town continued to work hard and Gary Lynch blasted over when well placed and with the chance to half the deficit beckoning. Darren McQuade also came close for Town with a rasping effort that Harps goal keeper Johnson got a hand to.

Any thoughts of a comeback were quashed however when Harps struck for their third of the game which was a brilliant effort from Nugent who hit a beauty from all of 25 yards into the top corner leaving Cadden with no chance.
