Ballinamallard Utd 2 Ards 3 Ballinamallard were denied a share of the spoils as Michael Ruddy headed home a 90th minute winner for Ards at Ferney Park tonight.

All the goals in this game of two halves arrived in the second period with the Mallards twice coming from behind only to give away a soft goal at the end as Ards left with all three points.

The first half was a dull contest with both sides struggling to make any sort of impact on the game.

The closest either side came to scoring was through a Niall Owens free kick for the Mallards which took a deflection and rolled just past the post.

However, the second half was much more entertaining as Ards took the lead after 49 minutes through Matthew Shevlin who fired home from eight yards.

The visitors then saw Craig McMillen head against the post but with 57 minutes on the clock the Mallards levelled. Ryan Curran worked the ball out to Gary Armstrong on the right and he arrowed a low shot to the bottom corner to make it 1-1.

Ards were back on front with just over 15 minutes to go as Kyle Cherry headed in from close range but again Gavin Dykes' side responded. Ryan Curran's shot hit the underside of the crossbar following a corner and Colm McLaughlin was on hand to head home for 2-2.

Ards though snatched all three points in the 90th minute when Ruddy was afforded too much space as he headed in from a McMillen corner to leave it 3-2 at the finish.
