Fermanagh’s two Super Cup NI teams will face opposition from across the world at the tournament this year, with the draw pairing them with teams from England, the United States, Ghana and Ireland, north and south.

But it is the Junior tie with Manchester United that has really captured the imagination, with the Fermanagh under 15s pulling the plum draw of the Premiership giants who back in the tournament after a two-year gap.

Junior manager Denzil McDaniel said that everyone has been given a real boost with the news that the Fermanagh boys will face Man United on Tuesday, July 25 on the north coast.

“It’s a fantastic draw, everybody is really excited,” said Denzil. “You always hope for a glamour tie, and it doesn’t get any better than that.

“The boys are already working hard, Fermanagh teams always prepare well. But this will give them a real incentive and a focus,” the manager added. “I feel the purpose of the Super Cup is to give Fermanagh boys a wonderful experience and what an experience this will be. I’m delighted for the players.”

“We must not get carried away with this tie, though,” said Denzil. “We face three excellent games. On the Monday we play Club NI; it’s basically a Northern Ireland side which defeated us in a recent friendly and they are really good. They’re just back from a tournament last weekend in Sweden where they defeated Everton 4-2 and were 4-0 up, and were unlucky against Inter Milan.”

And, the manager pointed out, Fermanagh juniors play Dundalk Schoolboys League on the Wednesday.

“Tough games,” said Denzil. “But, of course, everyone’s talking about Man United and I know the lads will focus hard on the build-up to this great tournament. There’s a lot of hard work ahead.”

The Premier squad have been drawn to play GPS Bayern (USA), Ghana’s Right to Dream and Co. Down in their opening group games and manager Darren Higginbotham was pleased with the draw.

“I’m very happy with it and in terms of preparations it is good to get the draw done and out of the way and now the players know what lies ahead in respect to the opposition. In regards to the teams; GPS Bayern are a bit of an unknown quality but what we do know is that they will be a good side. We know what to expect from Right to Dream, they will be full of pace, power and athleticism while Co. Down will be a derby game and with games against other county teams it will be a physical affair.

“Overall, it is a good mixture of opposition and we are looking forward to it,” he added.
