Adam Beckett will follow in the footsteps of brother Nathan next week when he represents Fermanagh at the Super Cup NI.

Indeed, the pair come from good footballing stock as their father is former Derry City striker Gary Beckett.

Adam has been selected to represent the Junior squad at this year’s world renowned tournament and the group stage of the competition will see them face among others Manchester United.

“I’m looking forward to the week and obviously we have the big Manchester United game on the Tuesday but we are just looking to the first game against Club NI for now. I’ve enjoyed the training and preparation and I think it has helped improve me,” said Adam.

Nathan was part of the Premier squad under Ryan Beacom two seasons ago and he had a taste of what it is like to face big opposition having faced Everton on that occasion.

“It is a great experience to play against a big team and I would just say to Adam to try and enjoy it,” stated Nathan.

Father Gary knows a thing or two about big games having played European football with the Candystripes but he says that the main piece of advice he would offer Adam is to work hard.

“I want to see him working hard, that’s very important. If Adam gets a chance in the first game hopefully he will be able to do as well as he can and then he will put himself into the manager’s thoughts for the next game. We have booked a place for the week and I’m looking forward to it. We’ll be watching lots of football and hopefully the boys will be able to produce some good performances and enjoy the experience,” he added.

Gary is still playing for Enniskillen Town Reserves and won a Reihill Cup alongside Nathan last season. And he hopes that he can stay on to be able to play with both his sons.

“That was great and hopefully I will have the experience of playing in the same side as both the boys at some stage.”

For now though the focus is on Adam and next week’s Super Cup.

“Next week is Adam’s week, just like it was for Nathan a couple of years ago and hopefully all will go well for him and the Fermanagh boys,” said Gary.
