Enniskillen Town 5 Magheraveely 0

Enniskillen Town produced a comprehensive performance to book their place in the quarter-final of the Mulhern Cup and set up a mouth-watering derby clash with neighbours Enniskillen Rangers.
The home side dominated proceedings from the first whistle and by the break they had opened up a 3-0 advantage with Michael Simpson, Frank Wallace and Conor Tummon all on target for Rory Judge’s outfit.
And they wrapped things up after the break with Johnny Hoy bagging a fourth before substitute Brian McDermott slotted home late on to leave it 5-0 at the finish.
“We played very well, I was very pleased with the performance and we could have scored more than the five we ended up with,” said Town boss Judge.
And it was his side’s work without the ball that pleased Judge the most on the day.
“We know that we have goals in us and going forward we are always a threat but we have conceded too many goals and that has often put us in the back foot. For me the winning of the game on Saturday was out work without the ball, we were tremendous in that aspect,” he added.
Next up is that meeting with treble chasing Rangers and Judge said that it is a game that his side are relishing.
“I’m sure that at this stage Rangers are favourites to win the competition but the boys are really looking forward to the game. Look, we know that we are going to have to up our performance from Saturday but their pitch is one that we like and we will be going there looking to get a performance and see where that takes us,” said Judge.
For Magheraveely, the cup is not top of their list of priorities as they look to come through the relegation scrap they are in and secure their Division One status.
“Town were very good on Saturday and they were hungrier from the start but for us the total focus is on league survival and the cup comes a distant second to that,” said Magheraveely’s Rodney McVitty.
It was the home side who were to gain a strong control over the contest from an early stage and with only eight minutes on the clock they opened their account for the day.
A corner from the excellent Conor Tummon found it’s way through to Michael Simpson and produced a side foot volley from close range to put Town in front.
Tummon was again the provider for number two which arrived after 16 minutes. His neat pass was latched on to by Wallace and the front man, who will miss the quarter-final against the ‘Gers due to being on his honeymoon, bent the ball around Gerry Grew in the Magheraveely goal for 2-0.
The away side did enjoy a better spell after this without really troubling the Town goal but any thoughts they had of getting back into the game were ended as the home outfit bagged their third goal of the half.
Nicky Dunbar picked out Tummon and he thumped home to make it 3-0.
Magheraveely’s best chance of the half fell to Alan Gregg who had linked up with Johnny O’Malley but he saw his effort cleared off the line by William Simpson as it remained 3-0 at the break.
It was Town who continued to boss the game after the interval and on the hour mark they were out of sight as they swooped for their fourth of the tie.
It was Hoy was to get on the scoresheet on this occasion as he tucked the ball past Grew to make it 4-0.
And Town weren’t finished their as they went on to finish up 5-0 winners as Brian McDermott came off the bench to strike, the attacker slotting home at the second attempt to seal their place in the last eight of the competition.
