Ballinamallard United 2 Warrenpoint Town 0

Ballinamallard cut the gap to Carrick at the foot of the Premiership table back to two points as second half goals from Stephen O'Flynn and Ryan Curran sealed a crucial victory over Warrenpoint Town at Ferney Park today.

And Mallards boss Harry McConkey acknowledged the importance of the victory and hopes they can now build momentum over the final four games of the campaign.

"It is a very, very important result for us, there is no question about that. I told the boys in the changing room before we went out that we have got to get the snowball rolling, lets make it a little bit bigger today and they have done that.

“I think we stretched them a lot but we just didn't finish in the first half but we kept believing and in the second half we got our rewards for the football we played,” said a delighted McConkey.

The Mallards had the better of the exchanges in the first half but at the break it remained 0-0.

Warrenpoint did threaten early in the second half with Lorcan Forde hitting the post but it was the home side who were to take the lead in the 72nd minute.

Ryan Curran had two efforts blocked but when the ball broke to O'Flynn he tucked it home.

And the Ducks wrapped up the points late on as the excellent Mattie Smyth put Curran in on the right and he slotted it into the corner to secure a crucial three points.
