Foyle Cup - Ballinamallard 2; Larne 2

Ballinamallard U19s started their Foyle Cup campaign with two draws from their opening two fixtures. On Monday they played CET Spain which finished 1-1 while this was followed on Tuesday with a 2-2 draw against Larne.

Larne had taken control of the game early on and by the interval they had a two goal cushion.

The opening goal arrived in the 20th minute when a shot from outside the box flew into the top corner giving the Mallards goalkeeper no chance. And ten minutes later it was 2-0 as a corner was headed home at the back post.

Ballinamallard did have a couple of chances in the first half but Dale Noble was twice denied by the Larne goalkeeper.

The Mallards though responded well in the second half and got back into the game early in the half. Danny Dunbar's corner was met by Conor McAleer. His header was cleared off the line but Noble was on hand to ram home the rebound to make it 2-1.

And within five minutes the sides were level. Willie Kempton's long ball was ran on to by Noble and although his shot hit the post Kane Connor followed up to tuck the ball home.

John Quinn's side then had chances to go on and win the game but they did not manage to capitalise on these as the game finished 2-2.

In their opening game, Ballinamallard grabbed the lead against CET Spain midway through the first half. Matthew Higginbotham's cross was controlled by Kane Connor and he laid it off to Willie Kempton who fired it into the net.

And Noble was unfortunate not to make it 2-0 when his well executed free kick was saved by the Spanish goalkeeper.

Early in the second half, however, CET equalised as a needlessly given away free kick was tossed into the box and a push on one of the CET players resulted in a penalty which was converted.

Kane Connor then had a snap-shot that went narrowly wide while the Mallards were forced to defend for the final ten minutes as CET pressed for a winner. The Fermanagh side though held firm as they took a point from their opener.
