Donegal Celtic 3; Fermanagh Mallards 8;
Fermanagh Mallards maintained their push at the top of the Championship table with an excellent 8-3 win away to Donegal Celtic.
Following an even opening to the contest it was the Mallards who bagged the first goal through Charlie Bell. And the Fermanagh side increased their lead soon after when a Bell shot took a deflection en route to the back of the net.
The in-form Bell then completed her hat-trick with a similar goal, another deflection helping the Mallards into a 3-0 half time advantage.
Donegal Celtic looked set to get back into the game when they scored at the start of the second half but the Mallards hit straight back with their fourth, a brilliant strike from Catherine Graham.
The Mallards continued to look lively and they made it 5-1 when Lynne McFrederick added her name to the score sheet. The home side didn’t give up and were rewarded with a second before a strange decision gifted the Mallards with a free kick inside the box. A smart move by Lynne McFrederick and Nicola Hynes saw Hynes score a brilliantly lofted free kick into the top of the goal.
McFrederick then registered her second of the game from the penalty spot after Hynes was upended and although Donegal Celtic headed home their third it was the Mallards who rounded off the scoring.
Ruth Whittaker was only on the pitch when she scored with her first touch to secure a superb 8-3 victory.
