Big blow...Kesh will have to do without sharp shooter Mark Jones for the first part of the season.

NFC Kesh will get their season up and running on Saturday when they take on Draperstown in the Pharmacy Supplies League Cup.

Manager Noel Ellis has been pleased with the effort put in by his side in training over pre-season and he is hopeful that the side can have a good year.

Kesh have lost goalkeeper Jerome Carleton to Enniskillen Rangers and Christopher Lyons to Irvinestown Wanderers but they have welcomed back the Belleek contingent, Mark Duffy, Conor Smith and Darren McNulty.

“It is like having three new players on board,” said Ellis. “They are available and committed and it is good to have them back. They are very experienced and hopefully they will be beneficial to us,” commented Ellis.

And the manager will have no problem in giving young players an opportunity to force their way into the first squad.

“We have some good young players coming through. It’s a long season and we need everybody available and if they are capable they will be used. If you are good enough you will be in the squad.”

Kesh have Mark Jones out until after Christmas which is a blow for them as they look to hit the ground running but Nicky Noble still provides a goal menace and Ellis will be looking for others to help out in front of goals.

So, what are the manager’s hopes for the coming season?

“I would be looking for us to do better in the league, and with the array of cup competitions that are available for us to play in I would hope that maybe we could get a good run in them and if possible it would be great to get our hands some silverware,” he said.

The Pharmacy Supplies League Cup will see Kesh take on Draperstown on Saturday before facing Strabane next Wednesday.

The winner of the three team group will then progress to the semi-final while the final is scheduled for December 31.
