Action from the 1-1 draw in the game between Derrychara and Maguiresbridge at the Lakeland Forum on Saturday.

Derrychara United 1; Maguiresbridge 1

Derrychara United and Maguiresbridge shared the spoils in this opening league fixture in Division Three at the Lakeland Forum on Saturday afternoon.

In a game of two halves it was Maguiresbridge who played the better football in the first half although they fell behind to an early Stephen Curley goal before deservedly equalising three minutes prior to half time through Warrern Murphy.

The second half was in stark contrast to the first with Derrychara much improved but with neither side able to conjure up a winner the two sides had to settle for a point apiece.

The home side could not have asked for a better start to the game as they grabbed the lead in the first minute.

Paul Crane drilled the ball low and hard across goal and Curley was on hand to finish under the goalkeeper to make it 1-0.

Maguiresbridge though started to get a grip on the contest after this early setback and they enjoyed plenty of possession albeit without really threatening the Derrychara goal. Indeed, against the run of play, Derrychara nearly made it 2-0 as Curley raced through one-on-one against Maguiresbridge goalkeeper Kenny McKeown but McKeown produced a fine save to stop his side falling further behind.

As half time approached Derrychara struck for deserved equaliser.

A scramble in the box saw Derrychara partially clear their lines but Warren Murphy picked up possession on the edge of the box and fired home through a ruck of players to make it 1-1 at the interval.

Derrychara started to see more the ball in the second half and they should have regained the lead when an opportunity fell to Derek Sharpe but he fired over the bar.

Dean Kennedy and Carl Woods also had chances for the home outfit in the second half but they failed to convert as Maguiresbridge came away with a draw which in the end was a fair result.
