Right: Neil Coulter tussles for possession against Fintona on Saturday.
Ballinamallard Res 5; Fintona Swifts 1
Ballinamallard United Reserves got off to the best possible start at the weekend with a comprehensive 5-1 victory over Fintona Swifts at Fisher Park.
The young Mallards dominated proceedings in a one-sided affair and player-manager Neil Coulter was full of praise for his side.
“I thought straight from when we got the first goal that we were going to get the three points. There was a real hunger and desire to get off to a good start.
“Our long fitness sessions with the first team has certainly paid off and I was delighted with our performance.”
The Mallards comfortably defeated the Tyrone outfit with two goals from centre forward Stephen Sheridan. Sheridan was a real nuisance to the
Fintona rearguard with his all action display.
Indeed, his two goals were just reward for his efforts, as he put in a workmanlike performance for the young Mallards side.
Winger Andrew Thompson was also on the score sheet with player-boss Neil Coulter scoring as well. The other Mallards goal was an unfortunate
own-goal from a Fintona Swifts defender.
Fintona could only respond with a consolation strike from Reid.
The Mallards face a tough test against a rejuvenated Enniskillen Rangers at the Lakeland Forum on Saturday , they will have their tails up after their opening win against last years league champions.
Fintona will be hoping for a positive response to their opening day defeat in their home tie at their new ground at the Ecclesville Centre against Enniskillen Town United.
