Killen Rangers will claim the inaugural Fermanagh & Western Youth League title if they can beat Enniskillen Athletic next Tuesday night at the Bawnacre.

The Tyrone side moved into pole position with a 4-0 victory over Kesh on Tuesday and with Enniskillen Town Utd and Enniskillen Rangers drawing 3-3, it means victory over Athletic would see Killen pip Town by a single point.

The Enniskillen derby at the Bawnacre on Tuesday night was a competitive affair with Town knowing that if they won, they would be champions, while Rangers had to win if they were to have any chance of finishing top of the table.

Indeed, with ten minutes to go it was Rangers who appeared to be on their way to the points as they led 3-1 but Town rallied in the latter stages of the game as goals to level and they could have snatched the win late on but Ciaran Brough was denied by a fine Jamie Connoly save.

It was Rangers who were to open the scoring when Paddy McGovern got on the end of a Paddy Reihill cross to head the ball over the Town goalkeeper to the back of the net.

And with 25 minutes played Rangers doubled their advantage with another header as Ryan Maguire met a Stuart Rainey ball to nod home while they could have been further ahead at the break only for a super save from Town goalkeeper Gary Doherty who somehow pushed a McGovern header on to the bar.

Town though started the second half on the front foot and they were soon back in the game as Galvin Crawford and Brough teed up Adam Breen who slotted to the bottom left hand corner. However, with 20 minutes to go, Rangers regained their two goal advantage as Louis Hopkins corner was turned into his net by Crawford.

Back again came Town though and following link up play with Breen, Brough tucked away to make it 3-2.

And it was soon all square as Conor Watson delivered a free kick into the box and Brough contested the ball before Breen nipped in to fire home for 3-3.

There was then to be two chances for Town to grab the victory, and the title. Breen rounded Connolly but opted to try and square the ball from an acute angle and the ball was cleared while at the death a quick counter attack saw Brough put through one-on-one with Connolly but the goalkeeper made a great save as the sides had to settle for a share of the spoils.

In the end, the draw opened the door for Killen and they were to record a 4-0 win over Kesh with Jordan Orr, Gerard Duddy, Tristan Roberts and Scott Gordon the scorers.

In the night’s other game, Strathroy Harps proved too strong for Athletic, the Omagh side claiming a 10-2 victory.
