Milk Cup Junior vice captain Ronan Quinn believes his side can cause an upset by taking points off favourites Everton and Corinthians. Everton are the reigning champions and Corinthians come from Brazil with an impressive reputation, but Ronan reckons if they play to their full potential they can take something from the group’s big guns.

“We are looking forward to playing the two big teams, Corinthians and Everton,” he admitted. “They both have quality that we will not have played before so we are looking forward to the challenge. I’m sure there will be a lot of defending and it will be tricky, but hopefully our hard work and fitness should pay off.” The team’s most obvious chance of collecting a win in the group stage will come against neighbours Tyrone, and Fermanagh will be going all out to get three points. “The game we will obviously want to target the most is the one against Tyrone, because we know they will be of a similar standard to us,” said Ronan. “They will be doing a similar amount of training, while Everton and Corinthians will have been training full time, five days a week. I suppose that is the game we will be looking to win, and three points against either Everton or Corinthians will be a bonus. We are looking forward to the challenge and hopefully we will give a good performance.” Ronan will be playing his first Milk Cup when he kicks off the opener against Corinthians at left back, and although he admits to a few pre-tournament nerves, he can’t wait for the action to get started.

“We are looking forward to the first game and we feel like we can’t really wait any longer,” he admitted. “We will be very glad to get the first game out of the system. I’m sure there will be a bit of pressure with the crowds and there is a bit of nerves there but we are all looking forward to it. We have played a few friendlies and in general we had one poor game against Donegal, but most recently we played against Cavan last weekend and we felt it went well. We played well as a team and got a 2-2 draw playing the age group above us. Although we didn’t get a win we were happy with the performance which is more important. It’s all very positive.”
