Liam Martin is delighted that he has become a regular starter for Ballinamallard this season.

The former Sligo Rovers player joined the club for a second spell in the January transfer window last season but struggled to force his way into the starting eleven during the second half of the season.

This year however his performances have earned him a starting call up for most of the league games so far, and he is delighted to get the game time.

“I’m very happy with that personally,” he admitted. “I’m just keeping training away and keep trying to put in the performances and try and help the team to get the wins.” The narrow defeat to Glenavon on Tuesday night showcased his skills once again. The versatile player stared the game on the left wing, but really started to influence the game when he moved up front.

A mazy run provided Lafferty with the best chance of the night, and he was a constant thorn in Glenavon’s side as he probed for a way through their defence.

Despite his performance however, he came away from Mourneview Park a frustrated figure. “It’s not about me, it’s about the team and we need to get the wins,” he said. “It was a good team performance but it was disappointing about the result. It felt like it was a matter of time until the goal came. We kept knocking at the door but it just wasn’t opening.” Next up for Ballinamallard are league leaders Ballymena, and Liam reckons if the team can maintain the level they produced in their last game then that first elusive win will be just around the corner.

“If we can repeat the performance we produced against Glenavon, because we did play very well at times in the match and we were just unlucky not to score, then we should be okay,” he said. “They are all tough games in this league. It doesn’t matter who it is. It’s just a matter of trying to get a team performance and the result as well. We just have to move on to Saturday and get the three points.”
