Two goals in the final eight minutes earned Enniskillen Town a victory over Kesh and maintained their third place in the league but manager Rory Judge admits his side were pushed all the way by a Kesh side that has yet to notch a point this season.

“They probably deserved a draw to be honest,” he admitted. “We were disappointed at half time that we weren’t a couple of goals clear, but the second half was a different story. Kesh were for long periods the more dominant team and looked like winning it. It was a bit fortuitous based on the second half performance but maybe on chances created we just about deserved to win it. It is a very good three points because we are missing a lot of players at the minute, and we are just trying to keep the points on the board until we get a few players back.” For Kesh, who looked as though they were on track to pick up their first points of the season, the defeat was hard to accept. “It knocked the stuffing clean out of us,” said Kesh boss Niall Amos. “It was a very positive performance. The boys gave everything. At the minute luck and maybe the decisions just aren’t going with us, but that’s football. When it’s going against you it goes against you, and we have to make our own luck now. We play Tummery this Saturday and it is a big, big game for us. We’ve got the big boys out of the road now and we need to kick start our season.” Kesh went into the game determined to take the game to their opponents, but they were behind after 10 minutes. Callum Funston bundled Thomas Owens over inside the penalty area, and Stephen Chambers dispatched the spot kick.

Town looked the more threatening side after their goal, but despite carving out chances they were not able to take advantage. Ciaran Brough was the main culprit, three times missing out when he was one on one with the keeper.

At the other end Mark Jones flashed a drive across the face of the goal, but he made amends just before half time when he ran on to a Jamie Middlemass through ball and fired a shot into the top corner from 20 yards.

Boosted by their equaliser Kesh looked the more dangerous side in the second half but Nigel Connor in the Town goal was keeping them at bay.

Middlemass, Jones and Lee Walker all had chances but they could not find the net, and the decisive moment came on 82 minutes when Town’s Mark Little found Gary Beckett and he fired across the keeper into the far corner from six yards out.

As Kesh pushed forward in the closing minutes looking for an equaliser they were caught on the break and Shane Carty scored from 18 yards to seal all three points.
