Second division Enniskillen Athletic defeated first division Lisnaskea Rovers to progress to the third round of the Junior Cup.

It has been a miserable start to the season for a new look Rovers side who are still looking to record their first league win of the campaign, and they came up against an in form Athletic side that had won five of their previous six games. Although they took the lead, Rovers manager Gregory Copeland had no complaints about the final result. “We competed for the first 20 minutes but after that they were the hungrier side and they deserved their victory,” he admitted. “It was a disappointing result. Morale is low but we are still working at it and its onwards and upwards for the next league game against Fintona.” Athletic did not produce their best football but they recovered from the early setback to ease into the next round of the competition. “I wouldn’t say it was a great performance but it is great to get through,” said manager Peter Goan. “It’s our first year in the competition and we are in the hat for the next round. We can’t do any more than that.” Rovers started well and took the lead after 13 minutes when Eoin Curran poked the ball home from close range, and Curran had a chance to add a second in a bright opening spell for the home team, but when he failed to find the net Athletic took advantage and were soon level.

Christopher Currie delivered a cross from the left wing and Dermott Lewsley and Gerald Houston both claimed the final touch as the ball edged over the line. There was no doubt about the identity of the scorer of the second goal as Lewsley found Currie on the left side of the penalty area, and he curled a shot into the top corner.

Currie was in the thick of the action and was on hand to set up the third goal, delivering a cross to the back post for John Joe Strain to convert at the back post. Currie then scored his second goal of the match when he curled a corner straight into the net to seal the victory.
