New Lisnaskea Rovers manager Kevin Curran came within seconds of starting his spell in charge with a victory, but a last gasp Dergview equaliser meant he had to settle for a share of the points.

The draw was only the second time Rovers have avoided defeat this season, but the new boss was very impressed with his side’s performance, and he believes they can haul themselves out of the relegation zone despite being six points adrift at the foot of the table.

“We played some brilliant football,” he said. “I took over this week and from what I saw on Saturday I don’t honestly know how they are in that position, because some of the football they played was outstanding. If we had taken our chances in the first half the game could have been over. All we need is an out and out goal scorer. We have three hard games coming up in the new year and I’m not even going to look at them. It’s going to be the last eight games after that that count and if the boys keep putting in the effort there is no reason we can’t get out of it. You just need that wee rub of the green, but there is enough ability there to get out of it.” Rovers, keen to impress the man in charge, made a bright start and Ingram and Mullally both came close to connecting with close range headers in the opening minutes that could have given them the perfect start.

They were made to pay for missing out after ten minutes when they failed to react to a quick goal kick, and Dergview broke down the left wing before crossing to score.

Rovers were quickly back on level terms when Shane Ingram pounced on a partially cleared corner to fire home from the edge of the area, and he then turned provider to set up Sean Mullally as Rovers took a half time lead.

Dergview increased the pressure in the second period and snatched an equaliser, but Rovers responded well and caught them on the counter attack, Ryan Carson applying the finish.

As the game entered the final quarter Dergview piled on the pressure, but just when it seemed as though Rovers would hold out a Stephen Phair clearance ricocheted kindly for the away side, and they ran through to net the equaliser in the dying seconds of the match.
