Enniskillen Town coasted through to the next round of the Impartial Reporter sponsored Mulhern Cup, firing nine goals past Dunbreen Rovers to book a tie away at Spamount Swifts in the next round.

The defending champions never looked in danger of falling at the first hurdle in their season’s competition, and despite conceded late goals manager Rory Judge is hopeful his side can defend their title.

“We have nothing else to go for so it would be nice to retain the cup,” he admitted. “It won’t be easy but we will give it our best shot, we have four games to go and I’m sure we can win four games in a row. I was happy with how we played for the most part, although we switched off at the end. Games like that can be horrible when you are in the ascendancy so much that you have players that want to be a bit too much cavalier and lose shape. When the game is in the bag it can be hard to keep the concentration but all in all it is a good start albeit we will face tougher challenges ahead.” Town were on the front foot from the opening minutes of the game and carved a few half chances in the early exchanges, but it took until the 15th minute to break the deadlock when Mark Little scored his first goal for the club, turning in a cross at the back post.

Midway through the half they extended their lead when Frank Wallace cut in from the left wing and curled a shot into the bottom corner.

In difficult conditions Town were playing some good football, and early in the second half went three goals ahead when Ryan Hanna flicked a cross from the left past the keeper. Matt McAuley added a fourth when he placed a low shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the area, and Gary Lynch’s first time shot from a Johnny Hoy cross made it 5-0. Mark Little grabbed his second of the day when he poked home from close range, and although Dunbreen got one back, Town continued to press forward with Lynch scoring his second from outside the penalty area. Malcolm Crawford made it eight with a finish at the back post, and Adam Breen added the ninth after being put through by Mark Little.

Dunbreen grabbed two late consolation goals in the closing minutes, but it did not threaten to change the result as Town coasted into the next round.
