Enniskillen Santos are within one point of securing promotion back to Division One following a facile 5-1 over relegation threatened Derrychara at the Lakeland Forum on Saturday.

However, manager Joe Keenan wants more and is targeting the title as the race goes down to the wire between them and Irvinestown with the title likely to be decided when the two teams meet at the Bawnacre in the coming weeks.

“It was an easy win for us and we could have hit double figures,” said Keenan. “It was not like a usual Santos versus Derrychara derby and we missed a lot of chances but I am delighted that we are only one point away from guaranteeing promotion. That said, we know that if we win all our remaining games we win the title and that has to be the aim. The boys are playing well at the moment. I have plenty of competition for places, so we should be able to get string teams out in the coming games and it is all to play for. Derrychara were maybe missing a few but it was a comprehensive win and could have been more as I said.” Derrychara’s Johnny Noble had “no complaints” with the result and knows that his team must win their final game to have any hopes of avoiding relegation.

“We have no complaints about the result that’s for sure. Santos deserved the win. We felt there was blatant hand ball at 1-- but we did not get it and Santos were the better team,” admitted Noble.

He added: “We have one game left against Glebe and we simply have to win it. They have tough games left so we are certainly not giving up and getting that win has to be the focus now. Hoepfully we will get the win and see where that takes us.” On Saturday, Santos could have taken the lead in the opening 20 seconds when Craig Johnston raced through but stand-in keeper Mark Gallagher saved while Stephen Clarke had another one on one chance soon after but he also failed to find the target.

Santos did take their chance at the third time of asking as some excellent play from Conor Tummon saw him control the ball and spin away from the defenders to create the space to finish with some aplomb and fire Santos into a 1-0 lead.

Derrychara then had the shout for handball when a ball into the box struck a hand but the ref waved play on.

Santos doubled their money soon after Johnston made amends for his earlier miss when slotting home after running through on goal again. Lee Glass came closest to a goal for Derrychara but his shot was saved by Peter Phair in the Santos goal. Jason Keenan made it 3-0 when strikng a fine left footed effort before Glass pulled a goal back with an adeptly struck free kick into the corner of the net.

Keenan got his second of the game to make it 4-1 and then missed chances for his hat-trick before substitute Duane Beacom added the fifth, firing the ball into the bottom corner to round off an easy win for the Santos.
