The Fermanagh and Western Football League will have one new club in its ranks when the season gets underway on Saturday August 15 after it was revealed at the AGM on Tuesday night at the Bawnacre that Enniskillen Galaxy will take their place in Division Three of the league for the 2015-16 season. Galaxy will play their home games at the Lakeland Forum.

However, Sion Mills Rec have left the Fermanagh and Western Football League and have joined the North West Intermediate League. There will though be three additional reserve teams in the league in the forthcoming season with Irvinestown Wanderers, Enniskillen Santos and Mountjoy United all entering teams in the Reserve league. And there has been seven entrants into the U18 Youth League for next season.

In terms of the Office Bearers it is a case of as you where with all the outgoing office bearers back in for another season.

Meanwhile, in his report, Secretary Gerry Connolly hit out at comments on social media sites aimed at him, Enniskillen Town United and the League’s Management/Emergency Committees. “In my report last year I highlighted the recent surge of offensive, abusive and inaccurate comments on local Social Media sites and advised clubs to set in place procedures to manage the contents of their players posts which by association could be linked to them. This advice fell on deaf ears and highly offensive and obscene comments pertaining to myself, Enniskillen Town United and the League’s Management/Emergency Committees were recently published on social media sites,” he said. As a result of this registered players Conrad Kee (Killen Rangers), Wray Lindsay (Killen Rangers) and Paul McCabe (Strule Utd) were sanctioned with a one match ban and there clubs imposed a fine of £100. And a further incident, he suggested could lead to Strathroy Harps being called to account for their action or inactions.

“The outrageous comment “They’ll give it to an Enniskillen player, cheating F&W c**ts!!!” which was published on the Strathroy Harps Facebook Page following the release of the Player of the Year nominations remains in situ at the time of writing. Strathroy Harps have certainly not set in place procedures to manage their Facebook Page and undoubtedly will be called to account for their actions or inactions,” he added.

Connolly went on to state that over the course of last season “a record number of 25 matches were forfeited - 13 of which were not played during the perennial hectic end of season programme.” Six games were abandoned, four because of torrential rainfall that caused waterlogged pitches, one because of an injury to a player and one because of a melee. He also reported a fall in the number of clubs over the season with Shelbourne withdrawing in the close-season which “necessitated a complete rearrangement of the match schedules to avoid weekly imbalances.” On the withdrawal of Derrychara United, he added: “The withdrawal of Derrychara United in late March, with only one match remaining, was perplexing to say to the least and brought an ignominous end to their 14 years in the league.” On Finance, Connolly noted: “It is disheartening to note that the downward trend on sponsorship revenue continued and alarmingly the League is now without a sponsor. This is a matter that we need to address urgently or alternatively we need to constantly look for nwew avenues to increase funds.” Connolly went on to praise the Awards Dinners and he also congratulated all the winners over the course of the season and looking forward to next season he said that he hopes that “the coming 12 months are characterised by a positive proactive ‘working together’ mentality.”
