Enniskillen Rangers are still searching for their first win of the season after going down to a Jamie Sproule inspired Killen Rangers. A hat-trick from Sproule secured Killen’s first points of the season but Enniskillen Rangers manager Michael Kerr was disappointed with his side’s efforts in front of goal as they failed to find the net for the second week in succession.

“In the first half I thought we edged it and we had a couple of chances to take the lead but unfortunately once again our finishing let us down,” said the manager. “They hit the post and had one or two chances as well and they probably came closest to scoring but I thought we edged the half. We are back to training this week and we will just have to go back to basics with our finishing. We are happy with how we are playing up until the final third in all our games but hopefully we can turn that around for the game this Saturday.” In a closely contested first half both sides had opportunities to take the lead. Killen hit the post and came close on several occasions, while at the other end Jarno Glass spurned two chances. The first came from a Michael Dooris pass, and Glass went past a defender before firing a low shot across the face of goal and past the far post. Matt Holden was the next player to release Glass, but on this occasion his attempted chip over the keeper drifted wide of the post. Jamie Lee Fawcett also had two half chances but the game remained goalless at the interval.

There was little to choose between the sides on the opening exchanges of the second half but the vital first goal eventually arrived for Killen after an hour when Jamie Sproule broke the deadlock.

Enniskillen Rangers kept probing for a way through the Killen back line but they were caught on the counter attack for the crucial second goal with Sproule once again the man doing the damage.

The game was wrapped up by the away side in the dying minutes when Andy Crawford broke through, and with the defence’s appeals for offside waved away by the referee, the veteran striker rounded the keeper and squared the ball for Sproule to complete his hat-trick.
