Enniskillen Town booked their place in the next round of the IFA Junior Cup with a 5-2 win away to Maghera Strollers on Saturday. The game got off to a bad start for Rory Judge’s side when they conceded within 30 seconds but Town bounced back and played some fine football over the remainder of the first half to go in with a 4-2 advantage at the break. And the Enniskillen side added a fifth after the break to put their name in the hat for the next round.

“We knew that they had recorded some decent results and they had some dangerous players so it is good to go away in the cup and get the win against a solid enough opposition,” said Judge. “We got off to the worst possible start when they took the lead after only 30 seconds but in fairness to the boys they never let that affect them and I thought we played some really good attacking football in the first half in particular.” It looked though as if the two time Junior Cup champions could be in for a tricky afternoon when an uncharacteristic error by goalkeeper Pat Cadden allowed the home side in to grab the lead after 30 seconds.

Town responded well to this setback though and with ten minutes on the clock they were on level terms. A corner fell to Frank Wallace who lashed a shot at goal that deflected off the head of Johnny Hoy and into the back of the net for 1-1.

And Hoy was to make it 2-1 soon after when he capitalised on a mix up between the Strollers goalkeeper and centre half to slot home from close range.

Just when Town looked as if they would go on top dominate though they were pegged back when a cross from the left was headed home at the back post as Strollers equalised.

However, Town managed to hit back again and two goals before half time put the Fermanagh and Western side in control at the interval. A fine counter-attack saw Conor Watson and Conor Tummons involved with Tummons sending Mark Little through, the midfielder making a run from the edge of his own box to get on to the ball before racing forward and slotting past the goalkeeper for 3-2. And this was followed by the goal of the game as Hoy fed a firm pass in from the right and Wallace stepped over the ball for Ryan Hanna to thunder a shot into the top corner to leave the visitors 4-2 ahead at the break.

Town continued to enjoy the better of the exchanges in the second half and they wrapped up the win in the 65th minute when Wallace waltzed through the defence before sliding past the goalkeeper as Town advanced to Round Two.
