St. Michael's, Enniskillen 3-08 St. Pat's, Maghera 6-14

Coming in to this encounter both St Michaels and St Patrick’s had one win apiece but it was to be the Derry school who were the dominant force throughout with their superior scoring ability the difference between the sides.
St Michael’s will now face a playoff for a place in the MacRory Cup quarter final with that game due to be played on January 25.
By the 20 minute mark in Tuesday’s fixture at Garvaghey, Maghera had racked up three goals and at half time they held a 13 point advantage.
The first 15 minutes were well balanced with St Michael’s doing well into a very stiff breeze but those three goals in a five minute period put the game beyond doubt before the St Michael’s boys got an opportunity to use the strong breeze to their advantage.
Lorcan McStavick did grab a goal for St Michael’s just before the break and they added two more three pointers in the second half with Darragh McGurn and Gareth Deery both on target.
Others to perform well for St Michael’s on the day included Conal Quinn and Ryan Flanagan in the wing half forward slots and Brian Og McGarrigle in the centre of the field.
After the game St Michael’s manager Dominic Corrigan was not terribly downbeat despite the result;
“We scored three goals but we could have scored six. We definitely left three behind us. We are playing well up to a point but we just lacked that bit of clinical finishing in the final third and Maghera had that and that was the big difference,” Corrigan stated before adding;
“So I will be taking a whole lot of positives from the game. We have played three games now and we know the areas that we have to work on and we intend on getting down to that work now.
“There is no doubt that we have to improve to close the gap between ourselves and some of the other teams but I have no doubt that we can do that.”
Turning his attention to the quarter final playoff that St Michael’s will now play Corrigan revealed that he is happy enough with the path that lies before his young charges;
“I wouldn’t be too annoyed with being in the playoffs. Maghera won a MacRory last year from there. It means we are out a few weeks earlier but that’s ok. We have two months of hard work ahead of us now and we know exactly what we have to do.
“As I said to the players the preparation for the MacRory Cup starts right now.”
