Enniskillen Gaels 2-12 Crosserlough (Cavan) 0-11

Gavin Greene came off the bench to score 2-01 as Enniskillen Gaels booked their place in the semi-final of the Ulster Club Minor Football Championship for a second year in a row with victory over Cavan champions Crosserlough.
The Fermanagh champions went into the break trailing by a point but they went up through the gears in the second half with Greene making a big impact on his arrival, bagging both goals against a Crosserlough side who had James Smith red carded early in the second half.
The Cavan outfit did mount a fightback but the Gaels finished with a scoring spurt as they progressed through to a last four meeting against the winners of this weekend’s tussle between Dunloy (Antrim) and Burren (Down).
Manager John Reihill was obviously delighted with the performance of his side on the day.
“The boys played really well and on the day I felt we were the better side and deserved to win. I knew that they would be tough to beat and it was going to be a close game.
“Even though we were behind at half time, I thought we had been going well but we wanted the boys to be more direct with their running in the second half, which they were. The goals then came at the right times for us and we’re delighted to be through. This is a very young side with 10 or 11 of them underage next year but it is nice to match last year when we got to the semi-final and to have the chance to go a bit further,” he added.
The opening period of the game was closely contested with the sides level at 0-02 apiece at the midway stage of the half. Conall Quinn and Ronan Quinn converted frees for the Gaels during this early spell while Crosserlough had two points from Patrick Lynch.
However, by the 21st minute Crosserlough had opened up a 0-05 to 0-02 lead thanks to points from Lynch, Eoin Smyth and Brogan Koetze.
Conall Quinn and Patrick Lynch then traded points but it was the Gaels who finished the half the stronger and two further points from the impressive Conall Quinn, one from a free and one from play, left the minimum between the sides at the interval, 0-06 to 0-05
Crosserlough suffered a massive blow when they had James Smith red carded early in the second half and another Quinn free had the sides level.
The Cavan side edged back in front through a point from Lynch but Enniskillen began to take control with Eoin Beacom growing in influence at midfield and points from Ronan Quinn, Callum Jones and Eoin Beacom moved them two ahead before Greene swooped for the first goal of the game following good work from Conall Quinn to make it 1-09 to 0-07.
A superb save from Gaels goalkeeper Cian Newman maintained the advantage for the Fermanagh champions but Crossserlough did manage to rally and scores from John Cooke, Patrick Lynch and Brogan Koetze cut the deficit back to a single point with five minutes to go.
Enniskillen though regained the upperhand and Beacom fired over before Greene nabbed his second goal of the contest after getting on the end of a tidy pass from Callum Jones to make it 2-10 to 0-11. Greene then tagged on a further point and John Reihill wrapped up the scoring as the Gaels finished up 2-12 to 0-11 winners.
