Lisnaskea 0-14 Derrygonnelly 4-16 14 points separated the teams at the final whistle in Emmett Park with the goal scoring touch of Derrygonnelly Harps the major difference between the sides. Stephen McGullion swooped for a hat-trick of green flags as the defending league and championship winners continue to signal their intent for the year.

Harps boss Martin Greene felt that it was an entertaining encounter between the two sides.

“It was an open game of football and the goals we scored proved crucial in the end. Lisnaskea have some very good forwards and they had their chances for goals as well so we’re just happy to have another win,” he said.

Next up is a clash with Ederney is a starred round of games and Greene is expecting a tight game.

“There is never much between the two sides and I’m sure Mickey (Cassidy) will be coming up looking for the win. It is a starred round this week and these games provide the opportunity for others to come in and make their mark,” he added.

McGullion was the star for Derrygonnelly on Saturday and he got the first of his goals inside 30 seconds as Derrygonnelly went to work early on and this was to prove a real hammer blow for Lisnaskea who continued to battle and play some good football in the opening half. Daniel Kille was to be their scorer in chief and he was especially accurate from placed balls with Chris McCabe also dangerous in the Emmetts attack.

At the other end however veterans Kevin Cassidy and Paul Ward were on song and at the break the winners 1-10 to 0-07.

The sides traded scores at the start of the second half with Niall McElroy on target for the home side and Garvan Jones replying but any hope Lisnaskea had of salvaging something from the game were extinguished when Kevin Cassidy finished with aplomb for the Harps second goal.

That strike all but ended the contest although to their credit Lisnaskea didn’t waver in their efforts and Garbhan McManus and Mark Little caused continual problems. The Emmetts also missed a penalty after Derrygonnelly keeper Dermot Feely saw black mid way through the second half.

Derrygonnelly struck for their third goal through McGullion with Ward and Garvan Jones splitting the posts soon after as they began to stretch their lead still further.

The icing was put on the personal and collective cake when McGullion added his third and his side’s fourth goal of the game as the Harps coasted to another big win.

For Lisnaskea there are some positives to be taken from the game and they will be pleased with some of the football that they played going forward and with a number of personnel out injured Kevin O’Rourke and Aidy Little will know that they will get better as the season progresses, a point alluded to by O’Rourke after the game; “The goals really killed us and they came at bad times as well. Derrygonnelly played really well though and they were breaking at speed and causing us problems. For ourselves though it is all about learning from these types of games and making sure we try and improve every week,” he stated.
