Roslea 3-04 Erne Gaels 3-15 Erne Gaels produced 30 minutes of football of the most scintillating variety as they plundered the two points on their travels to Roslea. The game had began with the home side on top and they were two points to the good after 15 minutes with Sean Quigley uncharacteristically off target with a number of free kicks that could have stretched the Shamrock lead further. Quigley was winning a fair degree of possession around the middle however as the visitors were spending a lot of time in their own half.

That all changed after 18 minutes when Erne Gaels scored their first point and they went on to reel off seven more before the break. The quick fire scoring of the visitors had Roslea stunned and the Belleek men continued in a similar vein after the break hitting 3-07 in the first 15 minutes. It meant all the Erne Gaels scoring came in a 27 minute period either side of half time.

There was a healthy spread of scorers for the winners with Tommy McCaffrey and Seamus Ryder both contributing from play and frees with Ryan Lyons, Barry McCann also splitting the posts with Damien Lyons knocking over three points from his corner forward berth. The goals in that third quarter blitz came from McCaffrey, Ryan Lyons and Barry McCann.

Roslea rallied late and had success with long diagonal ball into the full forward line as they scored three goals of their own. Sean Quigley scored two of those goals for the losers with Ruairi McGuinness hitting the other. Point scorers for Roslea included Quigley, Ciaran Cassidy and Shane McMahon.

After the game Erne Gaels boss Maurice McLaughlin was keen not to get carried away with the win and wanted to draw attention to the two periods at the start and end of the game where he felt his team were below par; “There were aspects that we we would not be pleased with. It took us 18 minutes to get scoring and that is not good enough while we also conceded three goals in the last 15 minutes which we would not be happy about at all. We switched off and went to sleep and you can’t do that,” he said before turning his attention to the positives.

“However any day that you come to Roslea and score 3-15 and get the two points is a good day and it was pleasing to get the win after losing out the previous week”

Roslea manager Brian Gormley was disappointed with the manner of the defeat; “We started very well and had all the possession but couldn’t get the scores we needed to push on. Then they got a bit of a run on us and we were always chasing the game from that point.”

For the winners Shane Mimna and Gary O’Connor were impressive in defence. O’Connor lined out in the full back line but he followed his marker who roved out the field and picked up a lot of break ball around the middle.

Further forward McCaffrey and Ryder were always dangerous with Damian Lyons using all his experience and football brain to be a third in the home rearguard.

For Roslea Shane McMahon, Conor Quigley and Sean Quigley battled manfully throughout.
