Lisnaskea 1-10 Ederney 1-12 There was never much between the teams in Emmett Park as Ederney returned home with the spoils.

Two points separated the sides at the break and with the teams sharing 12 points between them in the second half two points was the margin at the finish. Both goals came in the first half with Paul McCusker on target for the winners and Niall McElroy replying for the Emmetts.

After the game Ederney boss Mickey Cassidy was pleased with his side’s victory; “It was good to get the two points. This league is nip and tuck and one week you could be sitting in third or fourth and a few weeks later you could be in the relegation zone. It is a really tight league so it was great to get the win and every single win is so important,” he stated.

Early on Ederney went into a three point lead with Paul McCusker, Enda Ferris and Enda Cassidy all on target.

The Emmetts stormed back into the game however with the impressive Daniel Kille knocking over three points from play to restore parity.

Ederney were again to take control and they landed a goal through the wily McCusker that gave them another strong foothold in the game, points were added and they started to look dominant but Sean Keenan added to a Niall McElroy goal to leave two between the sides at the break.

Upon the resumption Lisnaskea were on top and created plenty of chances and while none were of the absolute clear cut variety there were certainly opportunities for goal with Keenan and McElroy both going close on a few occasions.

When the scores did come at either end they were points with Darren McCusker, brother Paul and corner back Michael Maguire splitting the posts for Ederney while Kille, Keenan, Mark Little and Kenny Kearns were on target for the Emmetts.

Lisnaskea just couldn’t get back to parity however and Ederney took the win in a very even contest.

For the winners Michael and Conor Maguire was impressive in defence along with John Irvine while Paul McCusker was in solid form further forward.

Lisnaskea meanwhile were well served by Mark McKenna and Stephen Phair in defence while Kille was dangerous in attack.

After the game Lisnaskea joint manager Kevin O’Rourke was clear about where his side needs to improve; “We would be happy enough with the effort and how the boys are playing in general but things are just not clicking in front of goal for us. It was the same the last day against Roslea and if we can just improve on that aspect of things then it will make a big difference,” he said before adding; “The league is a real minefield at the minute and I think it will stay like that until the end of the season to be honest. Teams are well capable of beating each other and I can see that continuing.”

Ederney have a tie with Belcoo this week and Cassidy believes it will be another game that will go down to the wire; “They are a tough team to break down and Peter Clarke has them well set up and like every game it is not going to be easy.”
