Irvinestown 4-07 Devenish 0-08 Goals proved crucial as Irvinestown secured the U14 B Championship title with a 4-07 to 0-08 victory over Devenish in Derrylin on Tuesday night.

However, this was a game that was maybe closer than the scoreline suggests with only two points dividing the sides moving into the final quarter.

It was Irvinestown though who produced the stronger finish as they went on to run out victors on the night.

The St. Molaise got off to a flying start as a Cameron Cassidy goal followed an opening point from Jamie McGovern to put them into an early 1-01 to 0-00 lead.

However, it was tit for tat over the remainder of the half with Fionan O’Brien and Malachy O’Flanagan landing two points apiece for Devenish while Mark McQuaid (2) and Oran McCaffrey fired over points for Irvinestown to leave the goal separating the sides at the interval.

Indeed, Devenish took control of the contest in the early stages of the second half and with O’Brien, Dara Stewart and Ciaran Cullen all tagging on scores they hit back to level matters at 1-04 to 0-07.

Irvnestown finally settled back to the task and a Ben Muldoon goal put them three ahead once more although Devenish hit straight back with an O’Brien point to cut the gap back to two as the game moved into the final 15 minutes.

Irvinestown though delivered two decisive blows as Oran McMulkin and Cassidy both found the back of the net to make it 4-04 to 0-08. And they went on to notch the final three points of the game through Eoin Swift (2) and Corman McCauley to seal a 4-07 to 0-08 win.
