Enniskillen Gaels will be hoping to make it a hat-trick of Minor Championship titles when they take on Derrygonnelly Harps in this Saturday night’s final in Brewster Park.

Enniskillen will enter the decider with the favourites tag after beating Derrygonnelly in the league final but it was only in the latter stages of that decider that Enniskillen managed pulled away and manager Brendan Dooris is expecting a tough test for his side.

“Derrygonnelly are very competitive, they never give you time on the ball and they have a great work ethic and I wouldn’t expect there to be much in it either way,” said Dooris.

The Gaels manager though does think that his side’s attack may give them the edge on the night.

“I think we may have the edge in our forward line. In the league final we had a lot of goal chances but their goalkeeper was outstanding while we also had some poor finishing but we have hopefully put that right now,” he added.

Peter Jones, who is a member of the Harps management team, is also expecting a a big battle at Brewster Park.

“The Gaels would be strong but like any game we would be going there to win and we will hopefully have improved from the league final,” he said.

Derrygonnelly had to dig deep in their semi-final win over Belnaleck when they saw an 11 point lead overturned as the Art McMurroughs clawed their way back to level.

However, the character of the players pleased Jones as they hit the final three points of the game to secure their spot in the final.

“We were well ahead and maybe a bit of complacency set in and Belnaleck came back to level. The boys though showed real character, they didn’t fold at that stage and went on to get the last three scores,” he said.

Jones knows though that his side will have to be clinical if they are to get their hands on the silverware.

“We created a few goal chances in the first half against Belnaleck but only took one and we know we will have to take those chances on Saturday night,” commented Jones.
