Fermanagh ladies manager Emmet Curry (inset) was delighted with his side’s performance as they saw off the challenge of Derry in their All Ireland Junior Championship fixture at the weekend. The Erne girls are in a group along with Antrim and the Oak Leaf county and this win in their first group game sets Fermanagh up well for a place in the All Ireland semi final, although Curry is not getting complacent; “It is still early days yet and we have to make sure we keep producing those types of performances. We can’t be getting carried away.

“I did think we played very well and it was our best team performance in terms of everyone gelling together so that was good to see but as I said we have another game coming up so we have to concentrate on that.”

Fermanagh will now face Antrim in their next group game but not before the Saffrons meet Derry.

On Sunday Fermanagh were full value for their 15 point win and Curry believes it was the strength of the central spine that had the girls in green motoring so well; “We were strong up the middle, Courtney Murphy and Shauna Hamilton in defence were very good with Marita McDonald doing very well in the middle of the field. In fact right up the middle we were strong and the rest of the team came in and played well around that.

“We probably could have had four goals in the end but we missed a penalty and a few other chances but that gives us something to work on and we want tot keep improving because there is an awful long way to go.”

This Fermanagh team have been improving all year and will secure their place in the last four with a win over Antrim on August 13 but Curry is not looking that far ahead.

“No, we just will look to the next game and see where that takes us. We have to make sure we keep pushing ourselves on and improving every game, that is what’s important.”
