Tempo v Kinawley
Saturday, August 26,
4.30pm in Lisnaskea

The Quinn Building Products Fermanagh Senior Football Championship gets underway Saturday with the clash of Tempo and Kinawley at Lisnaskea.
The game is set for a 4.30pm throw-in and is a repeat of last year’s Intermediate final that saw the Brian Borus take the title scoring five goals in the process.
Last year Tempo were the side operating in Division One and Kinawley in Division Two but this year the roles have been reversed with Tempo cruising to top spot in Division Two and Kinawley picking up 16 points in Division One, although still finding themselves in the relegation play-offs.
For Tempo manager Sean Breen this aspect of the game is something that he and his management team have been drilling into the Maguires players;
“We have talked to the players about the fact Kinawley have been playing in Division One and that there is a big difference between the two divisions. So we have to be ready for that and we know that this game is going to be very tight.”
The game does indeed look evenly balanced with both sides possessing a strong middle third.
Aidan Breen, Damien Kelly and if fit to start, Daryl Keenan are three experienced and excellent players around that area for Tempo while for Kinawley county men Conor Murphy and Paddy McGovern have huge engines and the ability to drive forward at pace from that sector.
For Kinawley manager Mark Monaghan he also sees the game as being very much of the close variety;
“I think the two teams know each other fairly well and Tempo have been going very well in the league in division two and they will be full of confidence and again after the Intermediate final last year they are sure to have a bit of revenge on their minds as well.”
On that occasion Ruairi Corrigan was the the man who broke Tempo hearts with a stunning display in the inside line. He won’t be as fit this year having recently come back from a serious injury sustained in the latter stages of that final but Kinawley can also call on the experience of Shaun Doherty in that forward line and should he be deployed either on the 40 or in the inside line he will take a fair bit of watching by the Tempo defence.
At the other end of the field the Maguires have a real live wire in the shape of Lorcan McStravick. The county minor is an excellent footballer and has been impressive all year. Ryan Bogue is also back to his best and he has been an integral part of the Tempo forward line and has been in blistering scoring form of late.
In conclusion this promises to be another intriguing quarter-final between two evenly matched teams. Both like to attack with pace from the half back line while both also carry real threat in their respective inside lines. In that case it might come down to possession around the middle third and also which defences can deny the most goal scoring opportunities. There was a goal fest when the sides met in the Intermediate final last year but this game should be considerably tighter in that respect.
