Teemore Shamrocks 1-10 Devenish 0-13

Thomas Treacy held his nerve to give Devenish a second bite at the championship cherry in Derrygonnelly when he stroked over a 45 three minutes into injury time to tie this evenly matched encounter with Teemore at 0-13 to 1-10.
While Devenish will be happy to be still in the championship, Teemore will be disappointed that they could not hang on as they led for much of the second half following a fine start to the period in which Liam Martin plundered the only goal of the game.
However, the teams will have to do it all again this week as they bid for a place against Kinawley or Tempo in the semi-final who also could not be separated at the weekend.
Devenish’s Malachy Cullen was, indeed, relieved to get a second go and wants his team to be more clinical this week.
“Absolutely, we are delighted to get a replay. To be honest, the first half was fairly even and we missed a few goal chances but Teemore took over for 20 minutes at the start of the second half,” explained Malachy.
He added: “The pleasing aspect fopr us was that we remained calm and clawed our way back to earn the draw. Looking ahead to this week, I don’t think much will change but we will have to be more clinical in front of goal and take our chances when they come along.”
There was nothing between the teams in an even first half as they traded points pretty much throughout the opening 30 minutes.
Ruairi Maguire set up Hugh Brady for the opening score of the game before Terry O’Flanagan levelled matters after which Jason McCaffrey edged the Shamrocks back in front.
Chris O’Brien did have a couple of sniffs at goal in this opening period but strong defending and a bit of misfortune negated against the Devenish corner forward.
Points from Terry O’Flanagan and a fine effort from Ruairi Doherty fired Devenish into the lead for the first time but Liam Martin levelled the game at 0-03 each as Teemore worked the ball well through the Devenish defence.
A foul on Eoin McManus off the ball gave John Fitzpatrick the chance to point which he did to give Teemore the lead again.
Devenish had another goal chance when O’Brien collected a high ball in and laid off to John McNulty but his close range effort was deflected out for a 45. Thomas Treacy pointed the kick to level the game before a fine effort from Jason Love and an equally good strike from McManus left it 0-05 each at the break.
Teemore came out the stronger at the start of the second half and put daylight between the teams for the first time.
Within 30 seconds they were ahead as McCaffrey and Niall Clarke combined to set Fitzpatrick who pointed. Then Brady played a perfect pass to Stephen McBarron and he turned his man to score as the Shamrocks led by two for the first time.
Ruairi Doherty pulled a point back for Devenish with an excellent score but Teemore were then to goal to take the game by the scruff of the neck.
McBarron fired the ball into the danger zone from the right side and Martin adeptly flicked the ball past Treacy in the Devenish goal to make it 1-07 to 0-06. with 38 minutes played.
This goal stung Devenish into action and they rattled off three points without reply while Love also crashed a shot off the bar. McNulty, Barry Mulrone and O’Flanagan with a free reduced the gap to a point but Teemore hit back once again.
Martin pointed for Teemore and then McManus hit superb long range free to put three in it again. Back came Devenish with points from Conor McGowan and Love but McCaffrey pointed to leave two between the side entering injury time at 1-10 to 0-11.
Barry Mulrone who had played much of the game at full forward was now out wining ball around the middle and he helped set up JJ O’Brien who made it a one point game with two minutes of injury time remaining.
Then, Chris O’Brien’s attempted point fell short but was punched clear amid a mass of bodies for a 45 by a Teemore. Up stepped Treacy and entering the final minute of injury time, he slotted over a fine kick to ensure a replay.
