Fermanagh assistant manager Ryan McMenamin says that they would have taken the place they are in now if it was offered to them at the start of the season.
A decisive tie against Longford on Sunday will determine which of the two teams will join Armagh in earning promotion to Division Two for next season.
“We would have taken it; if someone had said to me that we were going to play Longford in a play off to go up in the last game you would have taken the arm of them,” said the former Tyrone star.
Last Sunday Fermanagh played out a draw against Armagh in Brewster Park and it was a battling display in the end after the Ernemen had been reduced to 13 men with Danny Teague and Aidan Breen both sent off.
Fermanagh had played with the advantage of the breeze in the first half and led by four at the break but Armagh hit back in the second half although the 13 men held their own in the latter stages as it finished in a draw.
“It was probably a bit backs to the wall in the second half and the two sending-offs didn’t help us.
“We were in a good position I thought to kick on at half time but Armagh being Armagh, they are not top of the table for nothing and they battled really well.
“We would be pleased though that at the end, we looked comfortable defending and we had a couple of chances. You always like to win the games but it’s hard to win games when you are down to 13 or 14 men so we’ll draw a line under it now and move on,” he added.
The previous week Fermanagh led against Westmeath only to be pipped at the death and McMenamin felt that the work rate of the players was the most pleasing aspect of the performance.
“We would be very happy with the heart the boys showed, they worked hard and probably the most pleasing thing was that they really worked hard for each other and once a team does that hopefully you will be harder to beat further down the line,” said the three time All Ireland winner.
And he is enjoying working with the current group of players.
“They are a great bunch of lads, they are fantastic trainers and they never question anything they are asked to do. They all want to learn and be better footballers and they really enjoy playing for Fermanagh” stated McMenamin.
