Longford 1-9 Fermanagh 1-10 Fermanagh secured promotion in the most dramatic of styles as Seamus Quigley kicked a long range free with virtually the last action of the game to seal a 1-10 to 1-9 victory over Longford in Pearse Park today.

Fermanagh, who entered the game knowing that they had to win to clinch a Division Two spot for next season with any other result seeing Longford go up, trailed by two as the contest moved into four minutes of additional time but Rory Gallagher's side produced a strong finish with Quigley converting three frees in the closing stages to take Fermanagh over the line.

It had been a cagey affair in the first half as Longford went in at the break with a 0-07 to 0-06 lead.

Fermanagh had started the brighter of the sides with the away team leading 0-05 to 0-03 after 20 minutes.

Seamus Quigley, Aidan Breen, Ryan Jones and Ciaran Corrigan were all among the points during this period but a patient Longford side kicked four points in a row through Diarmuid Masterson, Daniel Mimnagh and Robbie Smyth to edge in front at the interval.

Fermanagh got off to the perfect start to the second half when Quigley swept home a penalty after Conor McGee was fouled but a methodical Longford hit back with a goal of their own as Smyth palmed to the net to make it 1-07 to 1-06.

Sean Quigley levelled things with a point from play for the Ernemen but Darren Gallagher and Smyth landed points for Longford to put them two clear.

And it remained that way to injury time as it looked as if the home side would clinch promotion.

However, Fermanagh took control in the latter stages and Quigley fired over after fouls on Declan McCusker and Ruairi Corrigan to level up the proceedings.

And at the death Quigley held his nerve to drill over a free from distance to seal promotion for Fermanagh and set up a Division Three final against Armagh.
