Roslea 3-06 Kinawley 2-09

Kinawley and Roslea played out an entertaining draw at the weekend. This was the Shamrocks first outing of the year and they were to improve as the hour went on but there is no doubt that it was the visitors who held the upper hand for the majority of the game.
“Anytime you go to Roslea and get a point is a good day. But we can’t help but think that we should have got the win and the players were disappointed at the final whistle. But we have three points from the opening two games and we have to be happy with that to be honest,” Kinawley manager, Mark Monaghan explained after the game.
For Roslea boss Peter McGinnity there was a sense of relief at the final whistle;
“We are delighted to get the point.
“I suppose when any game ends in a draw you can point to instances where you could have possibly won it. But to be fair you might say Roslea could have won it but Kinawley deserved to win it.”
Kinawley got off to a flyer with a goal from Ruairi Corrigan inside the opening two minutes. The diminutive Corrigan enjoyed a mighty tussle with county colleague James McMahon over the course of the hour with both men having their bright moments.
Things got even better for Kinawley with their second goal following a flowing move with the ball being moved through a number of hands with Aaron O’Reilly flicking the ball to Sean McManus to fire home.
By half time the visitors had opened up a six point lead on a scoreline of 2-03 to 0-03. Roslea relying on the Quigley brothers, Seamus and Sean for their scores with McManus and O’Reilly adding points to go with the two goals.
Upon the resumption Roslea were to all but wipe out the Kinawley lead with Sean Quigley swooping for a goal and brother Seamus clipping over two scores.
Seamus was beginning to have more of an influence on the game picking up a lot of ball from his centre half forward berth.
Points were exchanged between the sides until Roslea hit the lead for the first time in the game with an excellent goal from Connor Quigley.
That put the Shamrocks a point to the good but Kinawley came right back with three poitns of their own to regain the advantage, Sean McManus and Shaun Doherty on target for the Brian Borus.
Seamus Quigley reduced the deficit to a single point with a sublime effort from out on the wing and when Sean Quigley plundered his second goal to give his side a two point advantage it looked like it would be a home win.
To their credit however Kinawley kept their nerve and continued to play the good football that has been a feature to their start to the season.
Shay Keenan cut the gap to a single point before McManus converted a free following a foul on Conor Murphy to leave the sides all square at the final whistle.
