Lisnaskea 1-07; Newtownbutler 0-04;
An excellent all round team performance by Lisnaskea kept them in pursuit of league leaders Belcoo at the weekend. Played at a neutral venue of Kinawley, Newtownbutler were held scoreless from the eighth minute of this match as the Emmett's dominated proceedings.
It was Newtown who controlled the opening minutes of this game though, hitting four unanswered points. The first score, in the first minute from a Colum Monahan free. Shortly afterwards, Brendan McBrien tagged on a point from play before Monahan made it 0-03 to no score with less than five minutes played.
All the play was with Newtown as Lisnaskea struggled to get to grips with this game. With eight minutes gone Ryan O'Keefe added another point for Newtown. However, this proved to be their fourth and final score of the match, as Lisnaskea began to win possession at midfield and pick off their scores.
Niall McElroy was first on the score sheet for the Emmett's with a point before the Lisnaskea men netted the only goal of the game. The ball was well worked up the field to Daniel Kille who in turn set up Shane Ingram. The corner forward finished well to the back of the net to leave the score level at 1-01 to 0-04.
Fifteen minutes elapsed before the next score. Some good work from Colm Moane played Kille in and he lofted over an excellent point to give his side the lead for the first time in this match. Newtown did have a goal chance midway through the first half but an excellent save from Bob Robertson in the Lisnaskea nets kept his side in control.
As the second half resumed it was more of the same from Lisnaskea. Two points from Conor Curran followed by two from Daniel Kille (one free) put some distance between the teams. Again, Robertson in goals was to the fore to deny Newtown a goal.
In injury time Aidy Little got on the score sheet to leave the score 1-07 to 0-04 and seal an Emmett's victory.
With Lisnaskea trailing Belcoo by three points they await to hear the outcome of their appeal with the Ulster Council. They expect to know this weekend if they will be deducted points following the last league encounter between these sides.
Best for Lisnaskea were Bob Robertson in goals, Kevin Curran and Mark McKenna in defence. Up front Conor Curran and Daniel Kille were lively in attack. For Newtown Ryan O'Keefe was their main threat in what was an overall disappointing performance.
