Newtown's Clive Fitzptarick breaks the ball away from Seamus Quigley as Roslea won a tight contest by two points.
Newtownbutler 1-07; Roslea 1-09;
Roslea made it seven wins out of ten in the league with a two point victory over Newtownbutler on Sunday. The league champions remain on course for a semi-final slot in the league as they stay third in the table although a group of three teams are only another two points back in what promises to be an exciting tussle for top four places.
Newtown have slipped up after a good start to the campaign and are currently on ten points from 11 games played although manager Vinnie Connolly will be aware that if they can string together a few wins then they will be right back in the league shake up.
Newtown, who had the advantage of the breeze in the first half, held a two point lead at the interval but they could only muster one point in the second half as the Shamrocks, who were without midfield pair James Sherry and Kevin Cosgrove, pushed on to claim the points in a close contest.
Newtown had made the early running and were always in the lead throughout the half with Ryan O'Keefe, Jarlath Jackman, Colum Monahan and James Connolly, with a fine effort, all among the scores during the first half for Newtown.
However, Roslea stayed in touch with points from Seamus Quigley and Liam Lynch, and they then levelled matters when Seamus Quigley fired a 14 yard free into the back of the net. When Sean Quigley tagged on another point it put Roslea into a one point lead but on the stroke of half time Newtown hit back with a goal of their own. The Roslea goalkeeper was dispossessed close to goal and Jarlath Jackman took full advantage by slotting the ball to the net to edge Newtown two points in front at the break.
Roslea enjoyed much of the play in the second half and with Seamus Quigley and Niall Cosgrove lobbing over points they moved ahead although Newtown did threaten on the break and were unfortunate not to have added on further scores.
As the game came to a conclusion there was only one point dividing the sides and Monahan was provided with a good chance to level matters but his free into a strong breeze failed to find the target.
Newtown continued to press for an equaliser but from one such attack Roslea broke and Niall Cassidy fired over the insurance point for Peter McGinnity's side.
