Brookeborough Heber McMahon's officially opened their superb new playing and training facility at the club, on Sunday afternoon. MP and Fermanagh South Tyrone MLA Michelle Gildernew opened their second Prunty pitch at the club before moving on to Derrylin where she also assisted in the official opening of the new playing facilities at the O'Connell's club.

It was a busy day for Minister Gildernew who addressed the Brookeborough club men, women and children saying:

"It is always very satisfying to see months of hard work and initiative come to fruition and the opening of this new pitch must be great moment of pride for Brookeborough GAC. I know the club is fully embedded in the local community, contributing positively to the provision of sport at all levels. The new pitch represents a great investment not only in the club's future but for the future of the wider community."

The fruit of their labour was clear for all to see and for Brookeborough Club Chairman, Tom Howell it was a proud day.

"It means an awful lot for the club to have this second pitch. It means that from under 10s upwards to minors, juniors, seniors and the ladies they will have this extra facility. It took a lot of hard work and dedication and special thanks must go to Sport NI for the funding we received. Thanks also to our own County Board, the Ulster Council and our own club committee."

The opening of the pitch was incorporated as part of the club's sports day and Minister Gildernew officially opened it by kicking in the ball. Asked what kind of kick she had, Tom laughed saying "a very good kick, she's a Tyrone woman after all!"

Speaking to the crowds gathered in Derrylin afterwards Minister Gildernew said:

"It is a positive indication of the strength in depth of the GAA in Fermanagh when two clubs both open fantastic new playing facilities on the same day. It is a great honour to be here to share this achievement with you and I wish the club all the best in the future. I would like to congratulate all those involved in this ambitious project and I look forward to seeing further plans come to fruition in Derrylin."
