Brookeboro 0-15; Coa 0-07;
Brookeboro continued their pursuit of the top two, St Pat's and Enniskillen, at the weekend with a comfortable win over Coa. Whilst the first half was a closely contested affair, Brookeboro showed their experience in the second half as they pulled away from the opposition.
Liam McQuade opened the scoring for Coa but three points on the trot from Brookeboro gave them a lead they never relinquished. Niall Rooney hit the target with a free before Aidy Boyle and Seamus Creighan pointed to leave the score 0-03 to 0-01.
Darren McQuade kept the visitors in contention but Brookeboro always kept their noses in front with a score from Damien Moane and a superb long range effort from Tommy McElroy. Gary Lynch pulled one back for the Coa but two points from play from the boot of Niall Rooney kept the Heber McMahon's in the driving seat. Christopher Hanna reduced the deficit with a point before the break but it was always going to be difficult for Coa in the second half, playing against the breeze.
In the second half the Brookeboro men sat back somewhat and Coa did drive forward and were rewarded with ample possession. Indeed, they were unlucky to see a second half goal opportunity vanish when the ball rebounded back off the crossbar. Had the ball rattled the back of the net there would only have been two points between the sides.
Coa who were missing ten of their first team players through injury, tried hard and two points from Liam McQuade and one from Darren McQuade was all they could master in the second half. Brookeboro on the other hand picked off points from a range of players. Gerald Woods hit the target twice, whilst Niall Rooney, Seamus Creighan and Damien Moane all added to their tally.
Coa was always chasing this game and to their credit they made a game of it up until the last ten minutes when Brookeboro pulled away. Best for Coa were Christopher Hanna and Lee McQuade on the half forward line. Ryan Hanna had a good game at centre half back and Darren McQuade hit a couple of good points.
For Brookeboro, Paul Campbell was solid at corner back. Tommy McElroy had an excellent game at centre half and up front Aidy Boyle worked hard and tracked back a lot. In the middle of the park John Melarkey fielded a lot of high ball.
