Belcoo’s Niall McGovern looks to claim possession from this aerial duel during his side’s win over Devenish on Friday night.

Belcoo 2-10; Devenish 0-09;

It was back to winning ways for Belcoo on Friday evening as they came away with a seven point victory over neighbours Devenish on a score line of 2-10 to 0-09.

The home side made sure there was not going to be a repeat of their last home game to Tempo when they were on the wrong side of the result even though they played most of the second half with 14 men.

Devenish opened the scoring with a point from Chris O'Brien before Kieran Leonard got Belcoo of the mark with a free.

The same player then registered a good score from play after a well worked move but Devenish got back on top with scores from John O'Flanagan and Darren Brady making it a one point advantage to the visitors after 15 minutes.

Belcoo, who were playing with the wind in the first half, started to dominate the final quarter of the half and finished strongly.

Leonard got his third point of the day while full forward Brian Cox and Ronan Ferguson also got the score sheet while a John O'Flanagan free was Devenish's reply.

As the half time whistle approached, corner back Ryan Leonard got onto the scoreboard after he collected the ball and calmly slotted over from a difficult angle.

Belcoo's first goal came on the stroke of half time. Paul McGrath intercepted a Terry O'Flanagan pass before transferring the ball to Ciarán Flaherty. Flaherty played a superb long ball into Cox who made no mistake with the finish to leave 1-06 to 0-04 at the break.

The first point of the second half went to the visitors with Chris O'Brien pointing a free from distance.

Belcoo responded with a point from Flaherty before their midfielder Christopher Leonard was given his marching orders by referee Martin Higgins for a second bookable offence.

The home side struck their second goal shortly after. A good move down the right involving Ryan Dolan and Paul McGrath saw the ball passed to Niall McGovern who laid it into the path of Ronan Ferguson and he finished well past 'keeper Thomas Treacy.

Points from Terry O'Flanagan and Chris O'Brien saw the visitors reduce the gap but another pointed free from Kieran Leonard saw Belcoo add to their tally and keep a safe distance between themselves and Devenish.

As the game entered the final 10 minutes both sides traded scores with Ferguson registering twice for Belcoo while Darren Brady added two points for Devenish as the game ended with a comfortable victory for the home side.

Devenish will be disappointed with the performance over the course of the game, Chris O'Brien the only player who looked like being of any danger to the Belcoo defence.

For the home side it is a positive result in the run in to the championship with Ryan and Kieran Leonard putting in strong displays throughout the 60 minutes.
